About the Rules Please make sure you read these rules before joining Starlight Pridelands. There may be alot of rules but they are put in place to make your time here more enjoyable and to keep things fair and fun. Please take note of the fact that, under SP's current warning system, three warnings for bad behavior can get you either suspended or banned for good.
NOTE: We now have a five-characters-per-person limit. Please take this into consideration, but know that this rule is subject to change in the future.
Out-of-Character Rules 1. Swearing may be used, but preferbly not in every sentence. 2. This site is open to all levels of roleplayers; however, the minimum post limit is approximately 5 complete sentences (excluding dialog). We also ask that you not use apostrophes or chatspeak. 3. All content belongs to Debain and the current site admins Do not steal layouts, content, HTML, pictures or designs. If this rule is broken you will be instantly banned for life. 4. Account setups should be filled out as soon as possible. 5. OOC issues are to be handled off the site. Bringing OOC drama onto the boards is a punishable offense. If this rule is broken you will be instantly warned, we will no longer tolerate this at all. - Confusion during fights should be discussed in private - Arguments should never happen in the threads. This is a HUGE no no - Offensive comments should be kept to yourself - If there is an OOC problem, bring it up with the someone from the staff
OOC APPROPRIATE: [OOC: I love your char she's cute!] [OOC: Gonna be away a few days! Sorry!] [OOC: Wanna move this to a new thread?]
OOC INAPPROPRIATE: [OOC: I'm not replying because your fight post doesn't make sense] Should be taken to messages [OOC: That's not fair, everyone always teams up on my char!] No arguments whatsoever!
6. Please avoid posting under the wrong account. If you do it accidentally, it's alright, but be sure to add an "AS (character name here)" at the top of the thread. Do not ever post under the wrong account on purpose. 7. Postscripts are now allowed along with colored tables: please use simple color combinations that allow for readable text. Postscripts that stretch the layout will be immediately removed, so keep it at a reasonable size. 8. At present, people are only allowed to have one old character - no more. That being said, you are not allowed to use any old points whatsoever. All points must be earned anew. 9. Everyone is allowed to have 5 characters maximum. Extra characters may be bought at 60 WP per slot.
Pride Rules & Claiming 1. All prides can be stolen or challenged for. 2. A lion must have a minimum of 50 warrior points to challenge for or claim a pride. Females cannot rule alone. If you are made heir to a pride, you do not need points to take over once the King has stepped down. 3. Enter the other prides at your own risk. Their members may do what they like to you. 4. Once a lioness or cub (of either gender) joins a pride, only the leading lion(s) or royalty (prince, princess, heir) can let them leave. Males, however, may leave at will, without asking for permission. 5. When claiming a lion at the Borders, it is now against rules to post a message like 'coming' or 'claimed' on the thread if you intend to post there. Only IC claiming posts will count, and anyone caught posting save posts for claims will be given a warning. It is also against the rules to put up only half of your post, with the promise of more coming later. 6. A ranked character may butt into a thread at the borders if the first ranked lion to arrive has not officially claimed the rogue character. If the rogue character has already been claimed and a second ranked lion appears, you may challenge for the said rogue character. Posts with lions randomly coming in and saying you're claimed and then walking off will be deleted. Your post will also be deleted if you try and claim under the wrong account or save spaces in the thread with OOC posts. 7. If your lion has left, joined a pride, had cubs, or died, you must post on the Updates board. 8. If a ruler doesn't post every 7-10 days OR does not log in every 7 days at least - without an excused absence - they will be demoted to the next highest ranking position in the pride. 9. Cubs that are under 2 weeks old (OOC time) have to go with their mother in the event of being stolen. However, after 2+ weeks (OOC time) they are considered independent enough to go wherever they or the Kings choose. 10. If a ruler switches rulership with another lion all challenges are forfeited. 11. If a King decides to step down from rulership and there is no one to inherit the pride, all members of that pride will be returned to rogue status.
Mating Rules & Birthing 1. If pregnant, your character must stay pregnant for 7 days (OOC time) before giving birth. 2. If your character becomes pregnant you must go to the Cub Request board and post your information. A staff member will approve your litter. 3. After receiving approval you should put up an adoption board to find players for your cub. If a cub does not have a player before their birth, it will be stillborn. 4. Forcebreeding is permitted, but the lioness may fight back, and there's no telling if her relatives, her King, or her friends might hunt you down afterwards. 5. No explicit mating scenes or graphic births, please. Just arrange it all in OOC or say something like "(Character name here) did his thing". Or just mount them and that's it. If you really want to, do it over messaging or the private chat or something like that, but refrain from posting on in the Chat Log board. 6. Once a cub is born is stays a newborn until 3 days old, a cub until 20 days old, and they are an adolescent (still dependent) until 40 days old. They become teenagers (independent) after that until 2 months of age, and they become young adults after that. They reach full adulthood (sexual maturity) at 3 months of age. Fast aging is against the rules, though some leeway can be given if you want to keep your character at a certain age for a few extra days. Lions should be considered elders after existing for 2 RL years 7. Young adults are allowed to have cubs, but there is a greater risk of complications (miscarriage, defects, non-conception) when this happens. It's best for a lion to reach sexual maturity before breeding, but this does not mean they have to. 8. Lionesses won't be able to mate or have anymore cubs until her cubs are all teens, or until they've been killed. 9. When your character becomes pregnant you must post under the cubs section of the Updates board so it can be added to the page. This also goes for after the cubs are born. 10. Inbreeding will result in a 1/10 survival rate with birth defects, so it's probably a bad idea. 11. Once bred, cubs can be aborted at any time after the second day; however, you cannot abort cubs yourself - someone else must do it for you. 12. Lions can only breed willingly 2 times a week. Lions who choose to rape may only do so 1 time a week. 13. If you will be absent during the period when your lion breeds, you can have the cubs early. However, you must have your cubs by the tenth day after breeding or they are born dead.
Fighting Rules 1. No Godmoding or Powerplaying, please. If you are not sure what these are, read the Fighting Guide (in the private area) for help. The first offense for Godmoding will lead to an automatic loss and a warning; the first offense for Powerplaying leads to an automatic warning and one day in which to alter your post. 2. If another lion wants to steal your pride or kill you, you have 5 days to respond to the challenge. If one wants to steal a lioness or have a spar, you have 3 days to post. 3. Once your character is dead, it remains dead; no rebirths or revivals will be permitted. However, we will be happy to let you join up again as another character so long as you don't complain and make a big deal about your death. 4. There are three kinds of people who can judge: any members of the staff panel, judges, or someone who has been specifically requested to judge. 5. Lioness challenges can either be 5, 7, or 10 posts apiece. Pride fights and death matches must be 10. Spars and mercy matches can be decided, or unlimited. 6. Random lioness challenges are no longer accepted. Your character (or someone from the pride) must have met or heard of the character IC at least once, at least long enough to know which pride they belong to. A scout can also discover this information while on missions and relay it to their pride.
Death Matches
Since there has been so much confusion about this in the past, DMs now have their very own section in the rules.
1. Death Matches can be issued anywhere, but they must have a legitimate reason. An Admin or Co-Admin must approve all Death Matches, unless both parties agree to the death match when it is issued. 2. If there is a legitimate reason, the Death Match will commence, with 10 attack posts per fighter. 3. A character can issue a Death Match once a month. This does not mean they cannot be challenged to one by someone else, or wind up involved in one (such as in a war, raid, or other skirmish) *If the two RPers both agree to it, a lion can issue more than their allotted number of DMs in a month. 4. You can ignore a DM made in the Burnt area. You cannot ignore a DM challenge in neutral or pride territories. If you ignore it, your character will die after the fight goes default. 5. Death Matches go default after 5 days. 6. Your character has a chance to flee from a DM in neutral territory. Keep in mind that your chances of successfully escaping are greatly reduced when your character is outnumbered. The success of the flight attempt depends on the circumstance (Are they in the open? In a cave?) and the final say goes to the SP staff team. Attempting to flee counts as a full dodge, even if the attempt fails. 7. Your character cannot flee if they trespass upon pride territory and are ambushed unless the pride members decide to let them go.
Joining Rules 1. No mutations, strange lion sizes, weights, or extinct breeds will be allowed. 2. If your lion does not have a last name, make a new one up. 3. Rogue cubs may not be applied for unless they were bought using Warrior Points (in which case they would be cubs directly unrelated to lions already in Starlight). If you would like to roleplay a cub please see who is due to give birth and adopt one. 4. Just have fun and don't cause problems!
Character Creation This is a guide for making your first, second, third - or whatever - lion, to make sure you don't break the rules and force us to reject your application. Be sure to read it all!
1. Height The average height for a male is 4ft. Now, lions can be as short as 3'6 (midget lion :]) or as tall as 4'2. Once again, most lions are not 4'2 and those who are should have special permission from the admins in order to be that tall. Lionesses, on the other hand, average 3'3. They can be as small as 3'0 (very short and unlikely) and as large as 4'0. As you can see, lions aren't mammoths - in reality, they're fairly short, but extremely compact.
2. Weight A full grown lion weighs about 480 pounds on average. However, they can dip to as light as 330 pounds and be as heavy as 550 pounds on rare occasions; however, keep in mind that there should not be 550 pounds piled onto a 3'6 lion. A lioness averages at about 340 pounds, but like males, varies between 270 and 420. We'd appreciate very few lions or lionesses at the top or bottom of the weight range; Please do not make any lions heavier than 500 pounds and any lionesses heavier than 400 pounds. Approval must be sought from an admin for your character to be above these weight ranges. Thank you.
3. Body length and manes Head and body length is about 5'7 - 8'2 in male lions, and that's about the variance we accept. In females, it is 4'7 - 5'9. The tail is generally around 3 ft long. The mane of a lion usually covers his shoulders, chest, top of head, and sometimes down the stomach. It varies in thickness from lion to lion. Keep in mind we do not allow maneless lions or maned lionesses unless accepted by the admin. The color is usually multi-toned, lighter on the top and fading to a chocolate brown on the bottom. In nature, a darker mane meant it was easier to find a mate. However, pure black manes are quite rare. They usually contain some matter of lighter tawny or blonde tones.
4. Coat color Ah, yes - the untouchable subject. As you know, we do not ever accept purple lions. We went through a period where black lions were accepted, but no longer are any allowed. Exactly 5 white lions are permitted, but only with permission from a member of staff. There are currently 5 white lions on the site, meaning that none are being accepted at this time. However, for normal lions, the average coat color is a rather boring, sandy color. The fur is ticked, meaning it has bands of white around bands of color on each strand of fur - the color between the ticking defines the actual color of the lion or lioness. With that being said, colors can go from this, which is darkest, to this, which is lightest. It also includes citrus tones and dusty tones. While it's not bad to break this variation a bit, don't go too crazy or you'll get in trouble. TO SPECIFY: Medium Cream/Tan, Light Gold, Gold, Golden-Brown, Russet, Light Brown, Dark Brown, Medium Brown, Sienna, Beige, and Medium Tan are all acceptable colors. Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Silver, Purple, Blue, Grey, etc. are not realistic and will be rejected without further inspection of your application. EXAMPLES OF ACCEPTABLE COLORS: Tones of Gold - Tones of Golden-Bronze - Tones of Russet 5. Eye color For a very brief period, Starlight wanted realistic eye colors. Now, however, we accept all sorts. In fact, most eye colors aren't even realistic. So go ahead, make that lion with the golden fuchsia rainbow technicolor eyes!
6. Sexual Maturity Lions and Lionesses don't sexually mature until two years of age. In the wild, a lioness will have probably had two litters at the age of four years. It is advised on SP that you wait until your character is two years old or older to be able to breed successfully. If you attempt to breed at a younger age your character will likely die during birthing (for lionesses), or if your character is male, the breeding will merely be unsuccessful.
