Eccentric to the point of coming across as insane. Many of her little routines and hobbies are often disturbing to others to say the least. For instance she enjoys collecting things, unusual small rocks and sculls to name two of them. She likes to arrange these collections around whatever place she is currently using as a den, and might spend an hour or so daily rearranging, cleaning and caring for her....collection.
Unstable prone to mood shifts with very little outwards warning this lioness could qualify as unstable company. While she usually keeps to a few specific behavioral traits Harlequin has been known to vear off and act 'out of character' with no apparent reason or warning. The funny thing is SHE knows why, and to her it should be obvious why she does what she does.
Playful Maybe it was her lack of a proper, or even non-traumatizing cubhood...but Harlequin likes to play games that are heavly based on what others would call 'children's games'....and ususualy she plays them with children. Of course some of these cames have a disididly more...um....dangrous edge? Yes, lets just call it dangourous shall we? The good news is that while she IS a cannabil and will eat gust about anyone or anything, Harlequin does not usualy go after cubs...for what ever reason is floating round that head of hers.
Sadistic When annoyed, agravated or just particularly board Harlequin's behavoir takes on a definatively sadistic edge. Especialy if she dosen't like the subject of her attention. She ENJOYS watching others suffer and slowly die in pain when in her darker moods or malictious frame of mind, and has for example...lured anoying lions into area's of the salt marshes were they get stuck in the mire and slowly are pulled down to their death's over the corse of an our or so. Sometimes she watches with a smile untill they suffocate, and sometimes she waits untill all four paws are stuck...and starts to eat them alive. Anyyyway, lets just be glad she dosen't often end up in this mood shall we?
Curious & impulsive. Also a remnant of he isolated childhood. Growing up alone from the day she was weaned (a little to early) to her pre-teen months, Harlequin was in isolation without a parent or adult figure to explain the most basic of events or objects....now in adulthood she struggles to fill in those information gaps by watching others and often trying to mimic things she has witnessed other lions or lionesses doing. Curious almost to a fault Harlequin can be at her most....harmless...when asking questions or following a cub around and much like the youngster might, she asks 'why?' to many, many things. Because of that isolated start Harlequin has an odd SPEECH PATTERN, with gaps in her knowledge of words she often says things in strange or choppy sentences, this is not a sign of low intelligence, she is actually dangerously quick on the up-take...but it is a audible reminder of her lack of knowledge in certain areas.
APPEARANCE
Petite and deceptively delicate looking this small lioness carries an air of sculpted fragility. In form she is, of course, built like a lioness...however she gives off the impression of one more sculpted from glass instead of birthed to hunt the Savanna. Slightly longer legs than average, a slender streamlined carriage, and a small elegantly cut head with pixie features ...all these traits are a brushstroke in her masterpiece.
Take a closer look and more disturbing lines might shine through the innocent and fragile facade. For all of her innocent feminine attributes no amount of delicate details can quite cover up the fact that although Harlequin is not underweight for her stature and build.... not an ounce of fat or soft feminine curve exists anyplace on the caramel-touched chocolate lioness . This little lady is a powerhouse, dynamite in a small package she is all toned muscle and durable tendons, hallmarks of a lioness quite capable of providing and caring for herself despite her small stature and delicate lines. She is quite simply, a practiced predator in her prime .
When it comes to adding color to this masterpiece the dominate hue is a medium caramel-chocolate base-coat that coats her form creating a sumptuous starting layer. Each of her four slender, long limbs are dipped in pure milk chocolate to the 'half-way' point. Her cute little muzzle, ears and tail tuft are also brushed with color of that particular chocolate flavor. Belly, lower chest and whisker-pads serve as the lightest points on her verdure as they are a toasted creme color that accentuates the otherwise rich darkness of her personal coloration.
If the eyes are a window to the soul...it's best to keep away from the windows and close the shutters. Harlequin has her mother's pitiless red eyes (although it should be noted that both parents had eyes the color of fresh blood on snow). They are disturbingly vivid and luminous, darkening ever so slightly as they reach the center...the way a real pool of blood would as it grows deeper.
The last little tidbit worth mentioning would be her glossy black front claws, they are longer than average and she has to file them down and sharpen them often to keep them from snagging on tree-bark or other foliage. A big asset in battle...but only if she remembers to keep them well maintained! Harlequin is often compared to her mother Celeste when it comes to her physical appearance, although the two differ in age and coloration they share enough physical features to make many take a second look in order to tell them apart unless up close enough to immediately notice the differences.
history
Many of her bloodline can lay claim to abusive and rough starts in life, but with Harlequin one could argue if her abandonment as a young cub was a unfortunate or a fortunate turn of events. Her Mother Celeste underestimated and insulted a rouge lion while wandering the borders of Starlight, she ended up getting raped by Father Joker Siccoco (who then vanished before she could properly maim him.) When the cubs were born months later .... well, she had done it before and was likely to do it again afterward....she started to eat the cubs. The first two were male, and eaten as quickly as they drew their first breaths. But the third was a female, who's coloration was blatantly that of Celeste's bloodline, it was obvious even at birth! Because of her appearance and gender, Harlequin's mother decided against eating her that day, and gave the cub the minimum of care possible until she was almost weaned...then Celeste simply left Harlequin to live or much more likely...to die... left alone in the borderlands. Harlequin did NOT die, at first she lived off of bugs and carrion, then later by killing and eating younger cubs when she found them abandoned like she had been.
One day, when she was a young pre-teen (but still very small due to her petite stature) a large King found her in the borderlands, his name was Vulcan and the lion took her home with her. Volunteering to act as her 'papa' Harle became a princess for a little while, although most of the pride never knew of her status. However when Vulcan made an relative (her Aunt Lillee although she didn't know this.) Consort and then Later Queen of the pride, Harlequin left Mystal for her own good...the two of them did not get along well. Taking up residence in the Salt Marshes Harlequin learned to survive where most could not, and amused herself by watching food come to her! Prey animals and lions alike wandered in and became stuck or delirious from drinking the salt laden water...making for easy prey and entertainment for the young lioness. It was during this time that Harlequin met her first relative - that she understood was related! Cousin Abel , an outcast member of her mother's family, ran into Harlequin in the marshes....taking a liking to him Harlequin guided him to 'safer' parts of the marsh instead of waiting for him to possibly weaken and make a meal. The two talked and her cousin explained a little about Harle's mother's side of the family, and his own distaste for almost all of his relatives.
Afterward Abel and Harlequin went their own ways. Harlequin wandered in and out of Stardust's Southern borders for a few months, and recently returned to her home in the Salt Marshes , and her lovely collection of skulls that she keeps there around her den. Some time later the dry season drives her from Starlight, but she returned with the rains. Shortly afterward she meets Rae at the borders, and her young relative Juilen in the Salt Marshes and then sees him again at the borders. Harlequin agrees to visit both prides, it sounds like..fun. True to her word Harlequin first visits Rae for a little while, then shows up in Catton with a 'gift' to spend a little time with Julien. Shortly afterward a drought hits starlight and Harlequin leaves for a time, she ends up having one cub after a ...odd...encounter with a male rouge. She abandons it just before it's totally weaned and returns to Starlight due to the fact the dryness has now spread everywhere.
While she dislikes the heat from this drought and the lack of water, she loves all the death and entertainment it is providing!
