SURI -
It had started out as a fine day, the old pride had gone about their business. But then the fire started. Much like Starlight, Suri's homeland had been expierencing a drought, and it had led to a fire. Rosy red eyes peered into the distance, body suddering. Now she was alone. Nostrils flared as she walked, the scents she took in were annoying and unfamiliar. Males, females, it didn't make a difference. They all wanted one thing, power. The thirst for power had killed her father, and had enslaved her mother. Suri was a beautiful lioness, kept as a prize for the prince. But he didn't have a chance. A laugh. That boy had it coming, and trying to rape her before they departed hadn't worked. Instead a log crashed onto him, broke his spine. He was still alive when she found him. Delicate body moved quickly, a puddle of water in sight. Here she could find a home, or at least a place to stay. This place was unlike her home, she knew that by what her father told her. before becoming the leader of the pride, he had been a traveler. He passed through these lands, but kept moving on. He would have been safer here. Blinking once, twice, she crouched, the hot sun playing a game with the horizon. so far, the sun was winning, but it would soon change. The heat didn't bother her, in fact nothing did. Until you tried talking to her, or even coming near her. Suri is anti-social to the point of actually being afraid of others. Oh well. The lioness sprawled herself out on the ground, muscles stretching and becoming more comfortable. she was relaxed, but on guard.

Solstice
Carrlin Vale King
Solstice had mixed feelings over this first trip to the borders with a rank under his paw. On the one paw it was kind of exhilarating to be in the position of scouting out new members and working towards improving his pride. But on the other paw there were questions over just how he should do this whole 'claiming' thing. There were three methods he had heard of in his travels. One was to flat out inform the lioness she now belonged to you and the pride -they tended to dislike that as a general rule, but it guaranteed a new member as long as another king did not arrive and decide to fight over the lioness. The second was to try and be polite and invite them to come and take a look at the pride and stay if the wished. The third was to bribe the lioness with a rank, or talk of how wonderful the pride land was. Solstice was slightly adverse to the first, uncertain the second would work, and while he enjoyed flirting...rank was something that was earned and not given away as a bribe. So it looked as if he would be playing this one by ear....
It was still punishingly hot in Starlight. Solstice had started to wonder if the dry heat would ever end, or if the whole of starlight was destined to become one large rocky desert. His own pride was one of those blessed with an abidance of water normally....and now with this drought even the vale was slowly drying out. Water could still be found, but many of the plants had started to wilt slightly...and more and more rouges started to push there luck and sneak into the vale to try and steal water out of desperation. His light chocolate pelt was covered in a sheen of perspiration as he moved fluidly over the parched earth, muscles rippling smoothly with each long stride. The king started to wonder if the borders held any life at all, or if the drought had turned the already normally unpleasant area into a barren deathtrap. It was hard to smell anything but sunburnt grass and death these days. So it wasn't scent that led him to the new lioness, it was sound. His larger than average ears were very sensitive, and the sound of slow even breathing caused the male to alter his intended path and then cautiously approach a lioness who was laying on the ground.
He paused a few feet away and regarded her slender light bronze form as it rested on the ground. She was rather atractive wasn't she? Ack. Focus. Now as not the time for his fathers genes to be kicking in. "Miss? Laying out in the sun isn't the best of ideas right now, even if evening will arrive soon. It would be a much better idea to follow me to a shaded area. The Carrlin Vale pride would be an ideal spot, it is your new pride now as I am claiming you to it. Well, I am unless you have any strong objections to the idea that is. If you do, we can talk about them...hopefully in the shade." there. He was polite, friendly, and still managed the claiming thing in case another rude King decided to but in and try to snatch her from underneath him. He was hoping his smile, and sincere approach would prevent her from going all hormonal and lashing out over the 'claimed' part...

Suri
Rogue Lioness
Suri did not like being disturbed. Even more so by a male, that even before he gave his name or asked for hers, had claimed her into his pride. Ha! Suri go without a fight? Like that will happen. While he spoke, she stood, staring at him with rose blue eyes. "I'm Suri." The words were spoken quietly, only a whisper. "Is this how things are around here? The kings and queens of prides claim their members and don't even have a decent conversation first? Doesn't that damper the loyalty of the pride? You don't even know what your getting yourself into." Words were calm and quiet, but her body was tense, ready to leap at his throat in a moments notice. The lioness didn't want to fight, she was too exausted. The only reason she spoke to him was because he had claimed her. Stupid lions. Tail flicked in irritation. Was everyone around here so dumb? If her old king was here, he would slash open this males' belly. Ears flicked a bit as she watched him. Bronze-gold body shimmered in the sun. The heat was bugging her, but she didn't show it. A brow was cocked at him, wanting him to argue his case.

Solstice
Carrlin Vale King
Solstice winced slightly and shook his head with a sigh. He had known it might go this way, but he had been hoping that it would not. "It isn't like that all all Miss Suri. It has to do with the laws in these lands, unless I formally claim you, any other lion can come butting in and force you to go with them." and that was the honest blunt truth. He was offering her the respect of coming right out and saying it instead of dancing around the subject or insulting her intelligence. Other males might have been annoyed at her words, but if Sosltice was bothered by them he was not showing it.
"Miss Suri, Did you notice the part about 'unless you have any strong objections?' I was, and still am, offering you a way out if you are that against coming home with me." Solstice made no move to approach the lioness any closer than he already had, there was no need to. With his keen hearing the lion could hear her perfectly well from where he was standing. "My name is Solstice Celestine, and please forgive me...I'm rather new at this. I did not intend to offend you. I would still love it if we could continue our conversation in some shade?" his voice was calm, friendly and confidant...but with a slightly intense edge...he had been telling the truth about Starlight having lions who were less polite than he. Solstice was aware of her tense body, and annoyed behavior (the tail), but he did not appear upset. Even a lioness can be deadly however, and her slightly aggressive stance caused the male to smoothly slide into a defensive posture himself...balance well set, neck slightly tucked, and eyes watching the female ever so carefully.
Slash his belly open? Perhaps, but for his slightly smaller size Solstice was a fierce fighter who had already shed blood and proven himself in battle, that 'old king' would have found himself in more than a little scuffle if such a thing was attempted. With vibrant electric sky blue eyes he watched Suri contemplatively, waiting for her to respond. Would she prove the reasonable type, or the bitchy kind?
