I think this would be a great time to throw out some suggestions and have them put into this new site. Yeah, AR might be saved, but I honestly don't want to go back to AR with it being so damn unstable. If it is saved, it'll take a while for them to work all the kinks out.
So, while we're here, why not use some suggestions? (:
Here's a few of MY suggestions:
- Redo everything. I'd really like the rules to be redone, only because it feels disorganized - at least to me. Maybe we could redo the history too, just to spruce it up a little. We need to put new life into old stuff.
- Rewrite the forums. I think our forums could use a facelift. Carrlin Vale still says it's a place that needs to be explored, discovered. I just think our pride territories could use a little work.
- What do you say to new territories? Don't get me wrong, I like our current NEUTRAL territories, but they do get old after a while. They feel kind of generic. Since I'm closing Gaia, all my boards will be up for use.
THE SUNKEN GULLY In a small region just across the mountains from the Necropolis, there is the Sunken Gully. The Sunken Gully is yet another place that, although beautiful at first glance, it is not the place to be when it gets dark. A slick trail leads down into the underground caverns where the sound of water dripping is eerily amplified and continuous. Everything is wet here, blanketing rocks with moss – some of which even glows! But the moss means unstable footing for the unwary feline and can lead to broken bones or death. The caverns are dark and sometimes the only light that can be found is that of the glow worm larvae, their sticky threads above glowing with a light that casts everything in an ethereal radiance. Many of the pools that although seem shallow at first, can be deep enough to drown a full grown lion, so you must be cautious. Sudden sharp drops through the caverns also create another hurdle, so if a lion or lioness decides to come here, it would be prudent to not go alone.
THE SANGUINE FALLS Located just to the west of the Mojuru Mountain and over its range lies the most beautiful territory in all the kingdom. A calm cerulean-blue lake empties through a series of waterfalls to another, smaller lake – which in turn cascades into another, smaller pool. None of the small waterfalls have enough pull to drag a lion down, and can be relaxing to stand under and feel the gentle current, and to just get wet during the heat of the day. This valley is the perfect place to go swimming with your sweetheart, or go exploring as a cub. There is a path down to the bottom through a series of moss and plant-covered boulders or sometimes the more preferred of the routes down is to jump down from waterfall to waterfall. There are no big boulders at the bottom of each of the small pools, so the chance of hitting one’s head is negligible. During the rainy season this area can become a little slick with the excess water, but the tropical scenery and the high perches around the area still can make for a good date.
THE VIRIDIAN VALEAt the center of the pride lands, in a little nook in the Blackrock Mountains, lies the Viridian Vale. It is a lush, veritable paradise where prey abundant, and the grass is always green. A large body of water lies at the Vale's heart, and many come to here take a good drink – predators and prey alike. Clusters of trees provide shade in the heat of the day, and many are drawn to them. But even when the best trees are taken, the tall Blackrock Mountans cast looming shadows into the valley below – so there is never a shortage of shade. It is a wonderful gathering area in summer, but once winter arrives (bringing with it rain), the valley is apt for flooding and can become quite treacherous. The gators tend to extend their hunting grounds during the winter, as they can move farther when the waters are high – so you might want to keep an eye on your children. But despite this, the Vale is the best hunting grounds in the kingdom, and is an excellent hang out in the summertime.
THE ELYSIAN FIELDS A large, open area – this is actually one of the largest territories in the lands, located just east of Destini Hills. This place can get extremely hot during the day, so a nice rest beneath the shade of trees that dot the area can be a gift from the Gods. During the summer time the ground is brown and dusty. The grass crunchy and it becomes hard to walk silently – meaning it's hard to hunt. But during the wintertime, the cooler weather and the passing of the rainy season means that the grass has enough water to sprout back to life and it becomes a breezy, cool place to relax. And cubs just love to roll around in the luxurious, green grass!
THE VAGRANT PASS Arguably the least likely of the lands that a lion or lioness will want to stay in for very long, the Vagrant Pass is a wide desert on the northern edge of the kingdom. There are no trees or shrubs here – only sand, as far as the eye can see. There is a small pond here and though the water may be tempting to drink, it would be a fatal mistake as the saltiness of the water only begets more thirst and eventually, death. By day, this land is sweltering and with nowhere to hide, it becomes a race against time for a ruling lion to come and rescue potential subjects before they succumb to the elements. At nighttime, the heat is replaced with a bitter cold that seems to go past fur and into the bones. It is a horrible experience at any time of the day, but this is where all the new lions come to be welcomed by and claimed into the different prides.
THE BLACKROCK MOUNTAINS Like teeth rearing up from the ground around it, straining to reach the sky, the Blackrock Mountains are a long range of mountains that are bordered by six important territories ( including two pridelands ) – making these a major geographical feature in the kingdom. Most of the mountains are steep and rocky, although there are some low-lying paths that lead from one side to the other. The western side of the mountains is lush and green with dense jungles, while the eastern side is jagged and barren. The peaks are almost impossible to see, as many of them are hidden by dense clouds. Because of the tremendous heights and the dangerous sliding rocks, this is not the place for young cubs as they could easily slip and fall to their deaths.
THE SEARING GORGE Located to the south-east of Kuza Jungle, it looks as though someone or something has ripped a large hole deep, deep into the ground. It is a hellish place, with steep sides and a barren bottom with not a single leaf of a plant or tree, and no water – although there are some disfigured stains on the ground, the only remainders of past battles. Only one major path leads down into the Gorge although there are other, less traveled paths up the steep sides – some of which end painfully short of the top. All along the sides are little outcroppings and overhangs, making for the perfect area for lions to gather and sit, to watch the proceedings down below. Here is where fights and scrimmages take place.
THE SAVAGE CHASM In the northern region of the pride lands there is a small region called the Savage Chasm. It is a neat little stretch with many twists and turns, and even the walls bend and seem to shift so that the eye has a hard time looking straight up at it. Because there are many tunnels and paths to take, this is a popular place for cubs to play – especially games like hide-and-go-seek. But it is dangerous, as some places are dark as night, making it hard to see if the next step will be over the edge of an even deeper chasm. And if the pit falls don’t kill then the multitudes of poisonous spiders and snakes will. You should also be wary of your location in the Chasm, as it easy to lose your way in the dark passages – because once you are lost, it may be nearly impossible to find a way out.
THE NECROPOLIS In the south-eastern part of the lands lies a dusty, barren land that reeks of death even long before the first bone is found. Shortly into the territory, the first remains can be found. Elephant skeletons lie littered throughout the territory, some still with some meat on the bones – though a majority of the skeletons are just the bones now, white-washed through the elements and scoured to a perfect, grim state of being. Nothing can grow here, and even during the rainy season there hardly seems to be a puddle. Boulders and rocks lie scattered amongst the bones, more numerous than the elephant skeletons, but only just so. Some are small enough to not be a hindrance, but some of the boulders are precariously perched on the sides of slopes, and with just the slightest bit of shifting, they could tumble down. The stench of death lures in scavengers, such as hyenas and vultures. They would happily make a snack of an unattended cub ..
And these were pridelands, but they can always be changed to neutral territories.
DESTINI HILLS Located on the eastern side of the Blackrock Mountains is the Destini Hills prideland. Destini Hills is one of the larger territories, with rolling hills as far as the eye can see. At first glance, this may seem to be the perfect place to live, but upon closer inspection it becomes obvious that here there is little in the way of prey to be found and very little tree cover. Most of what can grow here is small shrubs although there are some small clusters of trees, getting more in the way of tree cover the closer to the mountains that one goes. Because of the terrain and how hard it is to sneak up on what prey lives here, it is sometimes necessary to visit the Viridian Vale to get the food necessary for survival. Dens can be dug into the soft slopes of the hills and the higher up the hills that they are, the less chance of flooding during the rainy season. On the highest hill, it is the perfect spot for the king and his family to live, giving them ample view of the hills where their members live and of the surrounding area in case of attack.
OMARU COAST Omaru Coast is the westernmost territory, and is the sandiest of all of the lands – probably because it is set on a beach. The sound of waves lapping against the shore from an ocean of blue crystal is comforting in the summer time but the moment a big storm hits, it would be best to run for the tree cover which is thicker the further up the beach – but thins out just a stone’s throw away. Everything about this beach is salty, from the water to the wind, but there is a fresh-water pond near the northern border, far from the salty, corrosive water. Despite what may seem like a tropical paradise, there is little in the way of shelter. Sure, there are the trees up the coast and some boulders here and there a little towards the northern border, but in the event of occasional storm surges, the wind and rain are merciless. Locals should flee to higher ground at the first sign of a storm because even though it rarely floods, the sea will rage and kill stragglers if given the chance.
VESENI FLATS In the southern most part of the kingdom there is the Veseni Flats. It is the pride farthest away from the claiming area, and is also the prideland with the least amount of coverage. Despite how little shelter there is, this territory has the best chance for catching prey with its wide open spaces and tall grasses. Trees are few in numbers and are scattered with great distances between any two. Most trees are small because prey animals destroy them before they can grow tall. They are bent over too, due to the strong winds. But the openness of the land makes for the perfect grazing ground for all kinds of gazelle and wild boars. There is a small watering hole in the center of the lands, which is thankfully clear of any kind of gator activity – for now. In the winter rainy season, this land is prone to flooding and it is impossible to escape it. The most shelter that a lion or lioness can expect from this land is from small copse of trees and thick brush that can be possible to escape some of the ravages of the day and of the rain of the season.
KUZA JUNGLE Located just across the mountains from Destini Hills is Kuza Jungle. It is a dense mass of thick forests and jungles, where rain is regular and the clouds hardly break for more than half a day before they once again roll in with another rumble of thunder. There are some openings in the dense jungle for meadows where prey likes to graze among the green grasses, meaning there are places to hunt. Bongo are common here but so are gorillas, and unlike the bongo, the gorillas will not hesitate to attack if they feel threatened. Dotted through the area are several watering holes and waterfalls, making this one of the most beautiful pridelands. Beware poisonous snakes and spiders! But so long as cubs are being carefully monitored by their mothers, this is an excellent place for cubs to grow because of all the different things that there are to see here. There is plenty of shelter under trees and even among the caves beside waterfalls.
MOJURU MOUNTAIN Perhaps once upon a time, a mountain did rend at the sky, taking its place among the mountains in the northern range. But now it is a much smaller knoll, dotted only with short grass and shrubs. There are no trees of any great size anywhere along this land, but the boulders and the knoll itself give much shade during the daytime. Due to the lack of grass and cover, stalking it difficult and prey scarce. Many times the pride will have to go outside to the Vale in order to find sufficient food to feed the entire pride. The top of the knoll can be easily reached and it is up here that the wind blows and it is actually rather cool in the summer time, and is a good place to come and relax. There are caves and crevices around the base of the would-be mountain and is a good place for dens. Generally, the higher up the den is, the more power and the more rank that a lion or lioness holds. The best den is towards the top with a path leading up to it, where a cool breeze blows in the summer and it doesn’t run the risk of flooding during the winter.
Like any of those? Mik did them all! So if they are used, credit should go to Mik! (:
